The city of Jonesborough is located in the Tri-Cities region of East Tennessee that includes the cities of Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol.  Founded in 1779, Jonesborough is the state's oldest city, and serves as the county seat for Washington County.  With a population of around 4,000 people, Jonesborough is the perfect example of small town living at its best.  Complimented by the natural beauty of the East Tennessee region and a pleasant, year-round climate, this historic city is a great place to live or visit any time of the year!

Once frequented by historic figures such as frontiersmen Daniel Boone and David Crockett, and Presidents Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, and James Polk, Jonesborough is rich in history and local lore.  The Jonesborough Historic District consists of over seventy-two buildings located in and around the downtown area that feature architectural styles from the Queen Anne, Federal, and Greek Revival periods, including the Jonesborough United Methodist Church, circa 1847; the Washington County Courthouse, circa 1913; and the Chester Inn, circa 1790s. 

Jonesborough is home to the International Storytelling Center, the only facility in the world devoted exclusively to the powers and creativity of storytelling.  The city hosts the National Storytelling Festival, held each year during the first weekend of October that features internationally known artists and storytellers from around the world.  The city also hosts the annual Historic Jonesborough Days 4th of July celebration that features parades, music, fireworks, food, and local arts and crafts; and Music on the Square, a weekly event held May through September that features performances by local bands, storytellers, poets, and others.

Jonesborough's proximity to several state parks, wilderness areas, and the Cherokee National Forest make it an outdoor sports and recreation lover's paradise!  Fishing on South Holston Lake, white water rafting the Nolichucky River, horseback riding in the Appalachians, and camping in Persimmon Ridge Park are just a few of the opportunities awaiting outdoor enthusiasts in the foothills of East Tennessee!
