The historic town of Blountville is located in Sullivan County, Tennessee approximately fifteen miles east of the city of Kingsport. The town was name after William Blount, who was the first governor of the Territory of the United States South of the Ohio River. Blountville is home to a population of approximately 3,000 people and serves as the county seat for Sullivan County.
The Blountville historic district consists of several buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries that include the Deery Inn, which served as the town's hotel, restaurant, post office, and trading post during the late 1700s, and the Anderson Townhouse, a two-story log building built in 1795 that is now home to the Traditional Appalachian Musical Heritage Association.
Local attractions include the Appalachian Caverns, East Tennessee's largest commercial show cave, and Cooper's Gem Stone Mine, where visitors can sluice for precious gems and stones using an authentic 300-foot onsite flume.
