The city of Kingsport is located in Sullivan and Hawkins counties and is situated in the far northeastern corner of the state of Tennessee in the region commonly referred to as the Tri-Cities area. Incorporated in 1917 and named after an early boat yard that was known as William King's Port, this historic city was frequented by early frontiersmen, Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett, and marks the beginning of the 200-mile long Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail. Golfing enthusiasts will enjoy the Cattails at MeadowView, an excellent golfing facility designed by Denis Griffiths that is recognized as one of the top golf courses in Tennessee. Baseball fans can enjoy the baseball action of the Appalachian Rookie League Kingsport Mets, a minor league baseball affiliate of the New York Mets, who play their home games at Hunter Wright Stadium from June to August.
